Jackson-Triggs
Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate Grand Reserve Series Pinot Noir
2019
About this winery
In 1989 Donald Triggs and Allan Jackson, along with a group of investors, acquired Cartier wines from John Labatt Limited. They then changed the name of the company to Vincor. In 1993, the duo began producing Jackson-Triggs wine, only from two grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Today Jackson-Triggs cultivates many different varietals and produces VQA wines and ICB wines. This is the most awarded Canadian brand.

Product notes
Although the 2019 harvest season in Ontario was delayed due to somewhat damp and cool conditions, overall it was a decent season. We experienced an unusually late start to sparkling harvest this year, with the first fruit harvested in late September from the Claystone vineyard.
Production notes
Although the 2019 harvest season in Ontario was delayed due to somewhat damp and cool conditions, overall it was a decent season. We experienced an unusually late start to sparkling harvest this year, with the first fruit harvested in late September from the Claystone vineyard. While ripening took longer than is typical, the quality was exceptional. The balance of the sparkling fruit was picked by late October and certainly showcased terroir driven sparkling’s. There was a strategy at play as to when to pick the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at their peak before damper, late autumn conditions settled in. Having negotiated this, we expect some classic and elegant wines to follow. As anticipated, Bordeaux varieties hung longer to achieve optimum ripeness.
Tasting notes
This elegant wine displays vibrant cherry, cranberry, black currant and delicate perfume on the nose. Hints of fresh strawberry, sage, and white pepper are balanced by subtle leather and earthiness. The fruit-forward palate is generous with ripe red cherry, raspberry, firm tannins and well integrated oak, followed by a smooth, lingering finish.
