About this winery
In 1989 Donald Triggs and Allan Jackson, along with a group of investors, acquired Cartier wines from John Labatt Limited. They then changed the name of the company to Vincor. In 1993, the duo began producing Jackson-Triggs wine, only from two grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Today Jackson-Triggs cultivates many different varietals and produces VQA wines and ICB wines. This is the most awarded Canadian brand.

Product notes
A very versatile wine, this Merlot is at its best when paired with dishes like Tomahawk ribeye with mashed potatoes & collard greens, gnocchi with red wine sauce, and Aubergine Parmigiana with match stick fries.
Production notes
The fruit for this stunning Merlot was a 50:50 blend of Niagara-on-the-Lake and Bench vineyards. Picked at slightly different times, it was patiently left hanging until perfect ripeness and balance for picking. It was then carefully crushed and sent to tank to cold soak for 72 hours. The tanks were warmed to begin a 10 day fermentation with carefully selected yeast, then rotated to extract colour and flavour before gently pressing and completing malolactic fermentation. Finally, the wine underwent an 18 month elevage in predominantly American oak, yielding incredible complexity and balance.
Tasting notes
This gorgeous Merlot displays incredible intensity of fruit, exhibiting cherry, wild raspberry and dried cranberry with creamy vanilla notes. Hints of bramble, leather, clove and nutmeg are evident. A lush, fruit forward wine, the Merlot brims with generous ripe red raspberry and cranberry, with a full bodied mouth feel. The integrated oak is framed with silky tannins, giving a lingering finish that is well balanced and driven.
